21-year-old Isiah Small was arrested on charges of First Degree Assault and Felony Menacing

BRIGHTON, Colo. (Monday, Sept. 1, 2025) – Adams County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested 21-year-old Isiah Small of Commerce City, following an early-morning altercation with shots fired at the intersection of E. 62nd Ave. and Broadway.

At 7:48 a.m., 911 received a call that an individual was down. Thirty seconds later, deputies arrived on scene and located James Wilson, who had suffered a single gunshot wound to the lower right leg. Deputies jumped into action, applying a tourniquet and assisting Wilson until further medical personnel arrived on scene.

Wilson was able to provide deputies with a photo of the license plate of the vehicle that the suspect fled in. Wilson also shared that the incident occurred after he requested that the driver of a grey sedan that was traveling too fast slow down through the construction site. The vehicle stopped, and two individuals exited the vehicle and initiated a physical altercation. During the altercation, Small used a weapon to shoot Wilson in the leg.

Deputies circulated the license plate, and the plate was flagged in the county’s FLOCK Camera System. Deputies were then able to locate the vehicle and detain Small at his residence in Commerce City.

Small was transported to the ACSO Substation for questioning and later arrested on charges of First Degree Assault and Felony Menacing. He’s been booked into the Adams County Detention Facility.

After receiving treatment at Mountain Ridge Medical Center, Wilson was released.

Further questions about this incident should be directed to ACSO PIO Nicole Narverud.
