ACSO Citizens Academy
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy program encourages public participation by offering hands-on learning experiences that promote transparency, trust, and understanding of local law enforcement operations.
Class Expectations and Participation Requirements
This section outlines what participants can expect during the 8-week Academy, including attendance policies, classroom conduct, dress code, and other important guidelines. Understanding these expectations helps ensure a respectful, safe, and engaging experience for everyone.
- Schedule: Classes run Wednesdays, 6–8:30 p.m., March 5 – April 23.
- Special Sessions: Saturday classes on March 15 and March 22, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at FLATROCK Training Center.
- Commitment: Full 8-week participation required. Missing more than 2 classes means no graduation and reapplication for a future session.
- Participation: Active, respectful engagement is encouraged.
- Sensitive Topics: Emotional and controversial topics may arise — open, respectful dialogue is expected.
- Guidelines: Conduct standards will be reviewed on Day 1.
- Comfortable, casual clothing required.
- Advance notice will be given if special attire is needed for specific classes.
- All necessary items will be provided by the Sheriff’s Office.
- Snacks and drinks are typically provided by Citizen Academy Alumni.
- Eating/drinking may be restricted based on the class topic.
