Protection Order

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office serves court-issued protection orders. This page outlines the process and provides contact information for assistance.

Requesting Protection Order Service

If you have a protection order issued by a Colorado court, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office Civil Unit can assist with service. Please ensure all court paperwork is complete before contacting our team.

What You Need to Know

To obtain a protection order, you must first contact the Adams/Broomfield County Courts. Once a protection order is issued, the plaintiff is responsible for having the defendant served by a disinterested person over the age of 18. If you request service through the Sheriff’s Civil Section, a fee may apply. Most services provided by the Civil Section carry associated fees.

Refer to the Civil Fee Schedule for details. After obtaining the protection order, bring it to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office Civil Section at the Adams County Justice Center, 1100 Judicial Center Drive, Brighton, Colorado, to arrange for service.

Before going to court, you may wish to contact Project Safeguard at (303) 637-7761. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to ending domestic violence by holding abusers accountable and increasing safety and support for abused women and their children.
