Emergency Management
Learn how Adams County prepares for, responds to, and recovers from emergencies and disasters to keep residents safe.
Be Prepared
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management Unit coordinates resources, planning, and training to protect lives and property before, during, and after emergencies. We promote community resilience through education, outreach, and disaster response coordination.
What We Do
Mitigation
Actions taken to reduce the loss of life and property by minimizing the impact of disasters. This involves risk analysis to inform mitigation strategies and the use of tools like flood insurance to protect financial investments. Our mitigation goals are outlined in the County’s Comprehensive Plan and Mitigation Plan.
Preparedness
An ongoing cycle of planning, organizing, training, equipping, exercising, evaluating, and implementing improvements to ensure coordinated and effective incident response.
Response
The immediate deployment of resources and personnel to address the effects of a disaster.
Recovery
Efforts focused on restoring the community and critical infrastructure, helping residents and systems return to a stable, post-disaster “new normal.”
Working Together
The Adams County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) collaborates with a wide range of partners before, during, and after disasters. By building strong relationships with county departments, municipal governments, state agencies, nonprofit and volunteer organizations, business associations, private sector partners, and community members, we enhance communication and coordination — leading to faster response times and a more resilient community.
