The Colorado Victims’ Rights Act (VRA) guarantees specific rights to victims of certain crimes. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is committed to ensuring these rights are upheld and that victims have access to advocates, safety planning, emotional support, and community resources throughout the criminal justice process.

Covered Crimes Under the Victims' Rights Act

The following criminal acts fall under the protections of the Colorado VRA:

  • Murder, Manslaughter, Homicide (Vehicular & Criminally Negligent)
  • Assault (Vehicular, 1st, 2nd & 3rd Degree)
  • Menacing, Kidnapping (1st & 2nd Degree)
  • Sexual Assault (Adult & Child), Unlawful Sexual Contact
  • Invasion of Privacy for Sexual Gratification
  • Posting Private Images for Harassment or Gain
  • Indecent Exposure, Incest (including Aggravated), Child Abuse
  • Child Prostitution, Sexual Exploitation of a Child
  • Crimes Against At-Risk Persons
  • Violation of Protection Orders in DV, SA, or Stalking Cases
  • Robbery (including Aggravated), Domestic Violence-Related Crimes
  • Careless Driving Resulting in Death, Hit and Run Causing Injury or Death
  • Stalking, Human Trafficking, Involuntary Servitude
  • 1st/2nd Degree Burglary (Dwelling), Bias-Motivated Crimes
  • Harassment – Ethnic Intimidation
  • 1st Degree Arson
  • Retaliation/Tampering/Intimidation of Victim or Witness
  • Retaliation Against Judges, Jurors, or Officials
  • Attempts, Conspiracies, and Solicitations related to these crimes
